Drunk Ashley Simpkiss, aged 29, flew into a rage at his partner, who was 16 weeks pregnant with his child, after her brother raised the alarm with social services that he might be abusing her.

Simpkiss and the victim had been in a relationship from the beginning of this year before he lost his temper on September 21.

Shrewsbury Crown Court was shown a video which the plasterer filmed on his mobile phone, showing him shouting and swearing at her while she sat ashen-faced in her pyjamas. He tried to make her take blame for issues in the relationship.

Simpkiss then slapped her and hit her in the head.

She “cowered in the foetal position” as she tried to protect herself and the unborn child, while Simpkiss kicked a table, causing it to break.

He then repeatedly kicked her in the face, saying: “I will kill you and the baby.”
