A public consultation on the future of public toilets in Knighton is expected to be delayed because of issues in pulling all the facts together.

The town council agreed in November to hand the toilets at the cemetery on Presteigne Road back to the county council and to review other toilets in the town to work out their options.

They said they would work out all the costs for the toilets in recent years including maintenance, energy and vandalism and present the details to the public.

The council said they would give the public the options available for them to say what they want the council to do with the toilets.

But at a meeting this week, Councillor Tina Sharp who is working on the figures said it is taking a lot longer than she expected.

She said she is having to chase up lots of items and there is no way it will be done by January.

The council had hoped to have the figures by January so they can work out how much they need to place in their budget for next year for the toilets.

Councillor Sharp said: “The information has to be correct. Trying to get a breakdown of all the costs for each year and a breakdown of how much each toilet costs from 2017 until now is not easy.

“There is a lot more to it than we first thought because in those years the utility companies we have used has changed etc.”

The council agreed that Councillor Sharp should continue with the work, they will have to build a contingency into the budget for the toilets and a public consultation will take place once the figures are complete.
