In his own 12 days of Christmas challenge, Tim from St George's is running a marathon each day, from Christmas Day until January 5, to raise funds for the Severn Hospice.

Tim's grandmother was cared for by the hospice at its Apley site in Telford, and his grandad then volunteered there as a gardener for several years following her death as he was grateful for the care and support the family received.

Ten years ago, Tim raised around £3,000 for the Severn Hospice by running up the Wrekin each day for a year, and he has subsequently completed a number of challenges including walking up the Wrekin 24 times in 24 hours during May this year.

Now, the 36-year-old is taking on his latest charity challenge and 12 days of Christmas marathons.

Getting up at around 7am or 8am each day to complete his runs, the keen runner said he anticipates that each marathon will take him four-and-a-half to five hours to complete.

He will begin his challenge by setting off from St George's Cricket Club and expects to head towards Ironbridge, and has invited Shropshire residents to join him on the runs, whether that be by bike or other means.

No fundraising target has been set, as Tim said he is aiming to raise "as much as possible".

But, after training throughout the year, he's relishing getting started on his challenge.

The 36-year-old said: "Physically this is going to be something I have never done before, mentally it is pretty big as well, especially over Christmas - everyone will be eating and drinking, but I will be pushing out more than 26 miles each day.

"It's a good job I quite like running!

"I just like challenging myself. The hospice looked after my nan and my grandad volunteered there. All I hear about the hospice is good things, so I thought while I am challenging myself I might as well do something to benefit them and other people.

"I am looking forward to it, which probably sounds a bit crazy, but I am.

"I have been training all year, and my family and friends are all behind me."

More than £1,800 has already been raised for Severn Hospice through Tim's fundraising page.
