Boxing Day is traditionally a staple in the hunting calendar, and is the day some of Shropshire's most high-profile hunting events are held.

The Albrighton and Woodland Hunt will set off from Newport on Thursday. In recent years the hunt's members have gathered at the town's rugby club off Forton Road with horses and hounds before heading off over the nearby Staffordshire border.

The hunt is due to leave the rugby club at 11am.

With traditional fox hunting banned, participants now take part in 'trail hunts' - where packs of dogs follow an artificial scent laid before and during the hunt.

The Albrighton Hunt first came into existence in 1825, then formally in 1830 - though it was preceded by two earlier hunts: the Shifnal and the Enville.

Last year around 30 riders took part in the Boxing Day hunt.
