The Quarry in Shrewsbury was packed with 868 runners as well as spectators for the Parkrun in Shropshire on Christmas Day.
The Christmas Day run smashed the previous record of 795 entrants, and race director Adrian Cooper said it went down well.
“It was really good," he said. "We had great weather for it. There were a lot of tourists but a lot of regular runners as well.
“We had so many we got close to running out of tokens (for people to record their times).
“Lots of people were dressed up. We had Christmas trees, a turkey, Christmas crackers and people dressed as Santa.
“There were lots of spectators as well which was nice. It was probably more of a social run. And now people can go and enjoy their Christmas dinner and their chocolates.”
Jack Pickett, of Wolverhampton & Bilston Athletics Club, was quickest around the course in 15 minutes and 10 seconds, with Maldwyn Harriers runner Deri McCluskey in second and clubmate Matthew Benson in third.
The fastest female runner was junior Emily Atkinson of East Lothian Orienteers who finished in a personal best of 19:29.
Pickett currently holds the course record of 14:57. He has broken the course record in Shrewsbury on multiple occasions.
