Flood alerts have also been issued across the border in Llanymynech and in the River Dee catchment area between Whitchurch and Chester after heavy downpours.

15.8mm of rainfall was detected during 24 hours at the Monkmoor gauge, up until 8.15am today.

At 9am, National Grid reported that 30 properties in Shropshire had experienced a powercut, including 27 in Hampton Loade near Bridgnorth.

The incident was first reported at 4.21am and was expected to be fixed by 9am.

Elsewhere, properties in the Shropshire Hills were also affected by incidents while more than 80 properties in Knighton, Wales were without power this morning.

Weather warnings remain in place across Shropshire, Mid-Wales and the West Midlands.

A yellow warning for wind has been issued by the Met Office until 3pm today.

"Strong south-westerly winds are expected overnight and during Wednesday," said the Met Office. "The strongest winds are expected across coastal regions in the west and south of the warning area, where gusts of 65-75 mph are possible.

"Inland, highest gusts will typically be between 45 and 55 mph, but possibly 60 mph in places, particularly in association with the passage of squally cold front which will bring a band of heavy rain southwards. The wind is expected to ease quickly from the north through the course of the day as this cold front passes."

The Environment Agency also warned residents in Llanymynech to expect flooding.

An update at 5.16pm on December 31 said: "River levels are forecast to rise at the Llanymynech river gauge as a result of forecast heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding of property, roads and farmland is possible.

"We expect flooding to affect properties and roads in and around Maesbrook including the A483 between Llanymynech and Four Crosses, just south of Llanymynech Bridge."

The warning added that further heavy rainfall is forecasted during the next 24 hours and that river levels are expected to rise until Friday.
