Some of us, sweltering under the weight of our lardy tums after stuffing our greedy faces with turkey, chocolate and roast potatoes day after day in December, may well have come to the dawning realisation that we need to hit the gym… (me too!)

Well, worry no more, we have you covered. Here are some of the Shropshire gyms that could help you turn from flab to fab.

Shrewsbury

  • JD Gyms, Sundorne Retail Park. £25.99 per month (£10 for the first month, no joining fee)

Well-equipped and open 24 hours a day. It’s in an old warehouse so no windows with picturesque views, but you’re there to work I guess and it’s decent value.

  • Bannatyne Health Club. £66.99 per month (half price first month with £15 joining fee, meaning you pay £48.50 for your first month).

Good facilities including pool, spa and sauna. Decent equipment in the gym, although more space could be made for weight training over a lot of barely used cardio machines. Great value in comparison to other, far more expensive premium offerings.

Telford

  • Anytime Fitness, Gresham Drive, Lawley. £29.95 per month

A modern, high-spec gym in a convenient location with a friendly team who have won awards for their charity work.

  • Foundry Gym, Kendall Business Park, Stafford Park 6. £28.99 per month,

Users rate the boxing equipment, personal trainers and the “buzzing atmosphere” according to Google reviews.

“Clean”, “friendly” and has “great owners” according to reviews, as well as a “large” selection of free weights, cable and cardio machines.
