Suspected drug driver in Welshpool 'no match for officers' after his car is hit with stinger

Police used a stinger to stop a suspected drug driver - then caught up with him as he made a run for it.

The incident, detailed on social media by Mid Wales officers, saw a 31-year-old arrested on suspicion of multiple offences after the incident in the Welshpool area last night.

They said the vehicle had been seized following the arrest, and that the driver had provided a positive test for cannabis and cocaine.

An update from Welshpool, Llanfair Caereinion and Llanfyllin Police said: "Pre emptive tactics authorised yesterday evening to stop a vehicle in the Welshpool area where the driver was believed to be disqualified!

"Vehicle stung and the driver made a run for it but was no match for officers and was caught!

"Checks confirmed he was disqualified! Vehicle seized!

"Driver said he didn't take drugs but a drug wipe proved different and was positive for cannabis and cocaine!

"A male aged 31 years of age was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, disqualified driving, driving without insurance and has been released under investigation.

"Remember, If you're found to be over the drink-drive limit, and/or driving while impaired by drugs, you can receive: a criminal record a maximum penalty of six months in prison an unlimited fine an automatic driving ban of at least one year (three years if you have been convicted twice in 10 years)."
