Tom Newton, aged 32, ran away from a woman’s house in her black leather sandals as he embarked on his peculiar crime spree in St Georges, Telford late one night.
Shrewsbury Crown Court was told how Newton went to the Co-op in Stafford Street at about 9.45pm on February 8 last year, getting a male member of staff to open the cigarette counter door before barging his way in.
The victim told police that Newton reached into his pocket for something with a black handle and demanded money.
Newton, who joined the hearing via video link from HMP Birmingham and could be seen constantly combing his hair and biting his nails during proceedings, said: “bull****” as prosecutor Danny Smith read the facts of the case.
He took £150 in £20, £10 and £5 notes in the robbery.
