One person given medical treatment after fire in flat in Welshpool town centre

Firefighters have provided an update over an incident that saw emergency services scrambled to a town centre.

Firefighters, police and ambulance crews were all sent to Welshpool's Berriew Street earlier this morning (January 13) to reports of a fire in a house of multiple occupancy.

The street was sealed off while firefighters dealt with the incident, and now the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed one person required treatment after the fire.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "At 9.10am on Monday, January 13, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews from Welshpool, Llanfair Caereinion, Montgomery, Llanfyllin, and Newtown Fire Stations, supported by crews from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, were called to an incident on Berriew Street in Welshpool.

"Crews responded to a fire within a flat on the second floor of a three-storey building containing commercial and domestic properties.

"Crews utilised eight breathing apparatus sets, two hose reel jets, one 45mm jet and ladders to extinguish the fire.

"All residents were accounted for and one casualty received medical treatment at the scene.

"Dyfed-Powys Police was also in attendance and the road was closed while the incident was ongoing.

"Crews left the scene at 12.36pm."
