Tony Bywater, chairman of award-winning caravan and motorhome dealership Salop Leisure, said he wants Shropshire Council to find urgent solutions to the traffic queues in the town.

He said the disruptions have forced workers to leave 30 minutes early each day to get to work on time.

"We are very concerned about the time it takes our staff and customers to travel in and around the town," said Mr Bywater.

"Shrewsbury is clogged and it’s not good for our businesses.

"It’s obvious that the road infrastructure is not keeping pace with the number of new houses being built in Shrewsbury. The result is gridlock and it seems to be getting worse every day.

"The long-awaited Shrewsbury North West Relief Road will obviously help to relieve traffic congestion, but we have no idea when it will be constructed. We need urgent solutions.

"Our staff are having to leave home half an hour earlier than normal just to get to work on time. Travelling across town can add an hour to a round trip which is time spent away from the business.

"Shrewsbury is a fantastic place to live and work and the onus is on Shropshire Council to ensure that the town continues to prosper by having a free-flowing traffic system that supports businesses, commuters and visitors."
