The Fiddlers Elbow in Leintwardine in Herefordshire, but based near the South Shropshire border, was named among the UK's best takeaways at the Fry Awards 2025.
The takeaway on Rosemary Lane was named among the 50 Best Fish & Chip Takeaways in the UK by Fry Magazine following months of judging in which takeaways, restaurants and mobile units were secretly assessed by mystery diners on a range of aspects.
These included food quality, premises cleanliness, staff expertise, value for money, ease of ordering and social media presence and saw only the operators with the highest scores earn an award.
It is the seventh consecutive year the Fiddlers Elbow has been named in the top 50 and follows on from the Good Food Award Gold Seal Winner for Fish and Chips 2023/2024, as well as the 2024 National Fish and Chip Awards Field to Frier and Fish and Chip Shop of the Year Awards.
The owners of the takeaway took to social media to say how delighted they were to have been recognised in the top 50 and offered thanks to the customers for their support.
The message read: "We are thrilled to announce that for the seventh consecutive year, we have been recognised as one of the 50 Best Fish & Chip Takeaways.
"This achievement follows two meticulous mystery dining visits.
"During these visits, the judges thoroughly evaluated various aspects, including the quality of our food, the cleanliness of our premises, the expertise & knowledge of our staff, the value for money we offer, the ease of our ordering process, and our presence on social media.
"Thank you as always to our loyal customers for your continued support."
Competition organiser, Reece Head, said: “Congratulations to this year’s award winners.
"Another year has passed and, once again, these shops have shown resilience, adapting to today’s challenges with remarkable dedication.
"At a time when inflationary pressures are being felt, these businesses continue to stay positive and prioritise their customers, maintain exceptional standards, and find innovative ways to keep fish and chips affordable.
“Starting the year as award winners is a fantastic way for fish and chip shops to kick off 2025, setting the tone for a successful year ahead.
“Whether served in a restaurant, a takeaway, or from a mobile unit, the Fry Awards prove that quality fish and chips can be enjoyed anywhere.”
