PCSO John Bowen said Donnington, Trench & Wrockwardine Safer neighbourhood Team was contacted by a resident who was concerned about an advisory notice that was stuck to their windscreen after parking on Highlander Drive.

The notice read: "You are parked in a residents only zone. Photographic evidence has been taken and vehicle details recorded. If this vehicle returns, it may be towed or clamped at your expense."

However, the West Mercia Police PCSO said the vehicle was not causing an obstruction, there were also no parking restrictions on the road, and the vehicle was not parked in a 'residents only' area.

He added that the sticker is available to buy online.

A post on the force's Neighbourhood Matters page said: "You can see from the image the advisory notice is basic and shows no contact details to direct any enquiry or complaint. The notice appears to be available online and can be purchased by anyone to use as a parking deterrent.

"On this occasion the vehicle owner experienced alarm, nuisance and distress.

"I would urge anyone to think carefully before using any stickers or notice on vehicles belonging to others."
