Shrewsbury road remains closed for works days after gas leak discovered near level crossing

A major town route remained closed on Tuesday as work continued to repair a gas leak.

Works have been taking place at Harlescott Lane in Shrewsbury, close to a railway level crossing, since Wednesday last week.

Initially the road was shut in the direction of Harlescott Crossroads but it has since been fully closed to allow utilities company Cadent to carry out the work.

A signed diversion has been in place, with access retained for residents and businesses.

Cadent has not responded to the Shropshire Star's request for information about how long the work is expected to take, but assured residents its crews were working "as quickly and as safely as they can" to complete the works.

According to information on one.network highways map, a permit has been granted by Shropshire Council for the work which is in place until Monday, January 27.
