Bridgnorth historian Derek Crockson died at the age of 87 on Saturday, January 4.
Described as a "true Bridgnorthian", Derek had a passion for history that saw him serve as an official town guide and take on the role of curator at Bridgnorth Town Hall.
Over the years, he worked at the Carpet Factory, AT&E and Decca until his retirement.
Paying tribute, Bridgnorth library manager Emma Spenser said: "Derek was a true Bridgnorthian. His passion for history matched his remarkable knowledge of his beloved town.
"He served as the official town guide and curator at Bridgnorth Town Hall but also ran Bridgnorth Guided Tours.
"He organised coach trips around the country, and over the last 30 years took thousands of groups of tourists around the town of Bridgnorth on guided walks, revealing its splendid past, through gentle humour and anecdotes.
"Only last year, Derek published a book of his Bridgnorth walks, which he was so proud of. He will be sorely missed, and his memory cherished by all of those who knew him."
Derek's funeral service will take place at 12pm next Monday (January 27) at St. Mary Magdalene Church, Bridgnorth.
