Christina Lerwill, aged 29 and formerly of Llanegryn Street, Abergynolwyn, Gwynedd, was sentenced at Shrewsbury Crown Court for five offences - after being convicted at trial last year.

All the charges related to her behaviour towards a man who took her in at a property in Burford, Brookside, Telford, when she was homeless.

In total she was sentenced for one charge of coercive control, three counts of assault by beating, and one charge of criminal damage - with all offences taking place over the course of several months in 2022.

Philip Beardwell, prosecuting, told the court how the victim, described as a vulnerable man in his 50s, had seen Lerwill was homeless outside his flat and offered to take her in on a short-term basis.

Over the following weeks and months the pair formed a relationship - but Lerwill also subjected him to physical and mental abuse.
