Police, firefighters and gas company called after car crashes into house in Telford

Police and firefighters were called after a car crashed into a house.

The incident took place at a property off Trench Road in Telford at around 9.20am today (Friday, January 24).

Three fire crews were at the scene, where a Vauxhall Corsa had crashed into the front of a house.

One witness said she had seen the vehicle travelling slowly before turning off, followed by a loud bang.

Police officers were directing traffic and the utilities company Cadent was called to attend due to a strong smell of gas.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said it had attended - and took the driver of the car to hospital with "potentially serious injuries which were not life threatening".

A spokesman said: "We were called at 9.51am to a road traffic collision involving a car and a house in Trench, Telford.

"One ambulance attended the scene. Upon arrival we found a man who was the driver of the car and a woman from the house.

"The man was assessed and had sustained potentially serious injuries which were not life threatening.

A number of emergency services were called to the scene.

"He was conveyed to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for further assessment.

"The woman did not require assessment from ambulance staff and received self care advice before being discharged at the scene."
