A pub based out in the country can be many things to many people, from a place where those living locally can call in for a pint to a place where travellers can stop for food, drink and a look around the local area.
In order to attract customers and ensure that the pub remains viable and can thrive, the people running country pubs have to look at how it presents itself and how it can remain attractive to people.
One pub which has become a desirable place to go is the Haughmond in Upton Magna, which sits about two miles outside Shrewsbury and a short hop from the A5.
The pub, which overlooks the Wrekin, has been owned and run by husband and wife team Martin and Mel Board since 2014, when Ms Board said they bought it from Marston's after they looked at it and saw the potential.
She said: "We saw it as a multi-use venue when we bought it from Marston's as it had all these derelict buildings outside, so we transformed a double garage into a village cafe, while the rooms next to the stables became pet-friendly rooms and the cow sheds became a self-catering, single level farm conversion.
"We also did a function room in one of the other barns and we also put five en-suite bedrooms on the third floor of the building as well."
