An inquest into the death of Nikolaj Stepanov heard that the 23-year-old had been driving on the A41 from the Newport direction towards Tong, shortly after 1am on Sunday, August 4.

Shropshire's Coroner John Ellery, sitting at Guildhall in Shrewsbury, said that Mr Stepanov was a forklift driver from Dock Meadow Drive in Wolverhampton.

The inquest heard that police had been called at around 1.10am on by a passing motorist who told them a vehicle had been involved in a crash.

The crash took place on the southbound carriageway, heading towards Tong, between the Pickmere Roundabout and the junction for Lizard Mill Farm, with the car hitting a tree on the near side of the road.
