Detective Constable Becky Jasper was presented with the 'Victims’ Champion Award' sponsored by West Mercia Police's Crime Commissioner John Campion last Friday at the force's Quality Policing Awards.
The event brought together more than 46 people who had been nominated by colleagues or by members of the community for going above and beyond their duty or making a difference.
DC Jasper led Operation Extract, investigating an attempted murder investigation in Telford, after a woman suffered life-threatening injuries.
Lee Sargent left the woman with life-changing injuries after striking her with a meat cleaver 32 times in a ferocious attack at his home in Stirchley in August 2023, while drunk.
Stafford Crown Court heard that Sargent left his victim close to death and put her in a coma for 11 days.
West Mercia Police said DC Jasper's dedication "shone" throughout the investigation as she kept the victim's family informed and reassured.
She visited the hospital, provided specialist domestic abuse support, guided the family with compassion and ensured that the victim's voice was heard throughout.
Her work and file preparation led to Sargent pleading guilty, and receiving an 18-year-and-10-month jail sentence with a three-year extended licence period.
