West Mercia Police sergeant due in court on corruption charge

A police sergeant is due in court after being charged with corruption.

West Mercia Police has confirmed that one of its officers has been charged with an offence, and will appear in court tomorrow (Tuesday, February 4).

Conrad Smith, 57 and from Mid Wales, faces one count of corrupt or improper exercise of police powers and privileges by a constable.

The charge relates to actions in Market Drayton between March 9 and May 24 last year.

A spokesman for the police force said: "A West Mercia Police sergeant is due to appear at magistrates court charged with corruption offences.

"Conrad Smith, 57, who was based in north Shropshire, has been charged with corrupt or improper exercise of police powers and privileges by a constable.

"He is due to appear at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (February 4)."
