A Romanian man has admitted two thefts on the same day in separate Powys towns and will be sentenced later this month.

Gheorghita Moscaloiu admitted stealing various items from window fitter Andrew Davies in Knighton and a set of car wheels belonging to Jonathan Morgan in Llandrindod Wells on the same day in December two years ago, when he appeared at Llandrindod Wells Magistrates Court recently.

The 25 year-old of Starbank Road, Birmingham, had come to Powys in a white Mercedes Sprinter van on December 17, 2022, along with another man.

Ring doorbell footage at Mr Davies’ home in Knighton caught two men loading window frames and other items into the van outside his property, but they were disturbed when Mr Davies and his partner returned home after witnessing the footage.

The theft of Mr Morgan’s car tyres occurred in the Afon Way area of Llandrindod Wells, with four car tyres, worth £800, taken from his property.

Moscaloiu had originally failed to attend court, with a warrant issued for his arrest. It was believed he had fled to Romania.

Alexandru Cioina, his co-accused, previously attended court and pleaded not guilty. He then failed to show up to court for his trial in December and was convicted on both counts.

Moscaloiu’s case was adjourned and he is due to appear at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on February 17 for sentencing.
