An extra £500,000 has been provided for the 2025/26 financial year, which Telford & Wrekin Council say will help them continue supporting those who are most vulnerable - providing advice and support to either prevent people becoming homeless or help them find move-on accommodation.
Already this year, the Council’s Housing Solutions Team say they have prevented over 300 people from becoming homeless and found move-on accommodation for over 460 and the additional funding will help to continue this vital work.
In addition, the recently announced additional £19,706 winter pressure funding for the borough will ensure that those who are rough sleeping have access to emergency accommodation during the coldest weather.
This is further supported by existing Government investment through the Rough Sleeping and Ex-Offender Accommodation Fund.
The fund is being used locally to provide dedicated support through the Council and local partners to those most vulnerable who are faced with no option but rough sleeping.
Councillor Richard Overton, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Deputy Leader said: “With the increase in those presenting as homeless in the borough, including families, we welcome the additional funding provided by Government.
“We are committed to tackling homelessness recognising the impact it has on individuals, families and communities.“
