Driver passing scene of bus crash arrested after 'strong smell of drugs' noticed by officers

A female driver has been arrested after officers monitoring the scene of a collision noticed a "strong smell of drugs" coming from her vehicle.

Officers monitoring the scene of a collision between a bus and a van on Tuesday morning, originally noticed a passing vehicle that had no valid tax.

But when driver was stopped, the officers said they noticed "a strong smell of drugs" coming from inside the vehicle.

A spokesperson for Market Drayton and Whitchurch Police said: "Whilst at the scene of the RTC earlier this morning officers noticed a car passing that had no valid tax. 

"The vehicle was stopped and there was a strong smell of drugs coming from it.

"A female driver subsequently failed a roadside drugs test and was arrested on suspicion of drug driving. She currently remains in police custody."

The country lane between the A49 and the B5063 in Acton Reynald, was closed following the crash that happened just after 8am on Tuesday.

Firefighters, paramedics and police officers were all at the scene of the collision, which occurred between a van and a bus.
