Kelly Carter, Claire Martin and Corey Elliot all received road bans and financial penalties after admitting driving while above the alcohol limit at Telford Magistrates Court.

The court was told how Carter, who was previously convicted of drink driving in 2016 and jailed in 2021 for conspiracy to supply Class A drugs, caused a crash on the A5 in Shrewsbury between the Dobbies island and the Edgebold roundabout on New Year’s Eve. Three vehicles were involved and it happened at around 8pm.

Prosecutor Kate Price said police were called to the crash where they found Carter behind the wheel of a Lexus.

“She told them ‘I’ve been drinking’,” the prosecutor said.

Carter, of Pontesbury, was arrested and taken into custody, where she blew a low reading of 97 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, comfortably more than twice the legal limit in England and Wales of 35mcg.

“She was quite obstructive and sarcastic with the police,” said Mrs Price, who told magistrates that when Carter was asked for her address she said: “Whatever you want it to be.”

Kate Cooper, mitigating, said that drugs have been an issue for Carter, and that when she was caught she was driving home after a row at a family party.
