Applicants Mr and Mrs Coltman-Rogers of Stanage Castle want to carry out the work at The Hendre, Stanage and have submitted a planning application and a listed building consent application.

The development is looking to provide a repaired and updated dwelling and bring the dwelling back into use to allow the owners to retire to this smaller dwelling.

The traditional building is a listed structure located to north-west of and downhill from Stanage Park near the north-west edge of the landscaped park and reached by a farm road west off the main drive near Stanage lodge.

The cottage is rented out as a private residence and is a grade II listed property described in the listing as a Sub-medieval structure with C19 exterior.

The existing building has had works undertaken in the 1980’s which included the re-modelling of the East gable structure, a new kitchen/dining area on the West gable, raised eaves height of the older part of the building, new roof, new windows and dormer windows.

This application includes work to remove the roof over the East gable extension and raise the

eaves level of this part of the building, put in a new roof over this element to form and refurbished bedroom and bathroom, create a new porch to the front door of the building, construct new stairs in a new direction, erect a new rear extension to form a ground floor bedroom with en-suite, a new rear extension to form utility roof for the dwelling and re-instate the front porch with steps.

The whole of the works are intended to give inclusive access to all.

The applicant’s currently reside in Stanage Castle but will be hoping to move into Hendre once the works are complete.

It is not intended to remove any trees from the site and the bat and nesting bird survey mitigations will be fully implemented.

Knighton Town Council recently considered the linked applications.

Councillor Tina Sharp said she could not see any problems with the plans and Councillor David Williams said there were two applications because one is for a historic listed building.

Members recommended approval of the plan but Powys County Council will make a final decision by March 13.
