'The period of clemency is over' - police warning over no-entry sign as they share drivers' excuses

Police in Shrewsbury have been monitoring the compliance with a no entry sign at Moneybrook Way on the Meole Estate in Shrewsbury.

In an update on social media they said that 20 cars and vans were stopped for driving through the sign, when travelling from the A5112 Hereford Road onto the estate.

Officers said their period of clemency is now over - and anyone breaching the rules from now on will be hit with a £100 fine, and three points on their licence.

They also shared a series of excuses offered by drivers, including 'the kids needed the toilet urgently', 'the SATNAV made me do it', and 'but I drive a taxi'.

The post stated: "Police have been monitoring vehicles at the ‘No Entry’ sign over the past week at Moneybrook Way, Meole estate, Shrewsbury.

"Sadly, approximately 20 cars/vans were stopped for driving through the ‘No Entry’ sign when travelling from the A5112 Hereford Road, at Meole Brace on to the estate and were clearly in breach of road traffic legislation.

"Examples given by drivers for breaching the sign are as follows: ‘The SATNAV made me do it’, 'the kids needed the toilet urgently’, ‘but I drive a taxi’, ‘the car developed a fault so I pulled over at the safest place’, and ‘it’s my first time in the area’.

"Please be aware, motorists are advised that the period of clemency is over.

"Any driver breaching the ‘No Entry’ will be issued with an on the spot fine of £100 and have three points on your driving licence."
