During a sentencing hearing at Shrewsbury Crown Court Judge Anthony Lowe told John Rowlands the consequences of his actions could have been far more serious.
Rowlands, previously of Matthew Henry Court in Whitchurch, had set fire to the bed in the flat on Unicorn Road, Oswestry, following a row with his partner.
The court heard that the 47-year-old's actions had been driven by 'sexual jealousy, intoxication, and the effects of cocaine'.
Sara Wyeth, prosecuting, said that the incident had taken place on the evening of March 3, 2022.
Rowlands had argued with his partner earlier in the day, making violent threats to kill her before later returning to their home alone.
Ms Wyeth said that people in the area around the property had been alerted by an alarm at around 8pm - they went to check the property but could see no sign of fire.
Around 20 minutes later fire crews arrived, with witnesses describing smoke now coming out of the building.
The court heard that Rowlands had been seen in the vicinity.
