Plans to build a block of nine apartments on the disused car park between the Glebe Centre and a 67-home housing estate currently under construction in Wellington were submitted in December.

The proposal, submitted by Dyanne Humphreys Planning on behalf of Mrs Sandra Allsop, showed a two-and-a-half-storey apartment block, made up of nine one-bedroom apartments.

The application argued the plans are "well considered and proportionate" and would provide "a definite enhancement of an empty modern car park."

It was the second application submitted for the disused car park in recent years. Plans to build 12 apartments on the site were withdrawn in June 2023 after concerns were raised by several residents and Telford & Wrekin Council's Built Heritage Conservation team.

But the council's planning officers have now rejected this latest application, presenting the applicants with a host of reasons they deemed the plans unacceptable.
