Eloise Nicholls, 37 and of Shifnal, appeared at Telford Magistrates Court on Wednesday (February 5) after pleading guilty to one charge of causing serious injury by careless driving.

The charge related to an incident on Brookside Avenue in Telford on November 8, 2023.

Chris Coughlin, prosecuting, told how Nicholls had been driving a Peugeot 5008 at around 3.30pm, "in close proximity to a primary school at the end of the school day".

He explained she had pulled out from Lake End Drive and had turned right on Brookside Avenue heading towards a pedestrian crossing outside Holmer Lake Primary School.

Mr Coughlin said Nicholls had driven through the crossing while it was on a red light, hitting a five-year-old child in the process.

He said: "He was in effect almost all the way over the crossing."

The court heard the impact "seriously injured" the child, breaking his left femur and his collar bone.
