Shropshire academy trust shortlisted for two national awards

A multi-academy school trust in Shropshire has been shortlisted for two esteemed categories at the National MAT of the Year Awards 2025.

The Empower Trust, which includes eight academies across the county, has been shortlisted for the 'Most Improved MAT' (multi-academy trust) and 'MAT of the Year'.

The national awards celebrate excellence in multi-academy trusts across the country.

The Empower Trust includes schools in Shrewsbury, Market Drayton, Wem and Shawbury.

Over the past year, the trust said it has worked to make strides to enhance the quality of education offered and support provided to its pupils.

The trust said the recognition is "testament to the significant progress and dedication" of its team and highlights the collective efforts of everyone involved.

Academies within the trust are Greenacres Primary School, Market Drayton Infant School, Market Drayton Junior School, Woodfield Infant School, St George's Junior School, St Mary's C.E. Primary School, St Peter's Primary School and Nursery, and Wilfred Owen Primary School.

Carla Whelan, CEO of the Empower Trust, is delighted with the news.

The Empower Trust added that it is grateful for continued support from its community. Representatives will attend an awards ceremony on Thursday, March 6.
