Elderly horse rescued by firefighters in Bridgnorth after falling down bank

An old horse was rescued by firefighters after falling down a bank.

Four fire engines were sent to Ludlow Road, Bridgnorth late this afternoon (Monday, February 10) after the 28-year-old animal got stuck.

The fire brigade used slings and ropes to pull the horse to safety, before the animal was left in the care of a vet.

A Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) spokesman said: “At 4.34pm on Monday, February 10, SFRS Fire Control received a call reporting an incident classified as ‘animal rescue’ in Bridgnorth.

“One 28-year-old horse was rescued from a bank using slings and ropes from the Animal Rescue Unit. The horse was relocated to a field and left in the care of the vet.”

Fire engines including the rescue tender were sent to the scene from Bridgnorth and Wellington. An operations officer was also in attendance.
