A Kington business leader is concerned that a change to a car parking provider will be the start of cost rises.
The chairman of Kington Chamber of Trade, Emma Hancocks told the town council recently that while Herefordshire Council did notify people of a change of parking provider from Ringo to JustPark, there was no notification of a price change or the fact that people can no longer buy a permit.
Herefordshire Council announced that JustPark became its official parking provider for those who wish to pay online for council-owned parking spaces across the region, from January 7 2025.
Parking sessions can be booked via the JustPark app, available on iOS and Android, which is free to download and is rated highly for its simplicity and ease of use*. Payment through the JustPark website and via calling a local rate number - 01432 805339 - will also be available, ensuring residents can pay using their preferred method.
In addition to using JustPark for drive-up parking needs in Herefordshire’s on-street spaces and off-street car parks, those using the JustPark app and website also gain access to JustPark’s nationwide marketplace of pre-bookable spaces, ideal for attending events or travelling further afield.
The council made the switch as the previous contract was expiring and JustPark were successful in an open tender process.
Ms Hancocks said: “People are saying that it is more expensive to use the app, that they can’t buy a permit and it does worry me that it could be the start of car parking cost wars again.”
The town council noted Ms Hancocks’ concerns and said they would keep an eye on the situation.
JustPark is the UK’s most trusted parking app, used by over 13 million drivers.
