The statement says the council works with the people of the town to make it a vibrant and welcoming place to live, work and visit.

Highlighting their core values the council says it will use its resources to promote the reputation and appearance of Knighton making it a great place to visit.

The town council will also support the quality of life of the residents of Knighton making it happy, healthy and safe, and they will also work to facilitate local artistic and cultural projects, events and groups to highlight the town’s history arts and culture.

Finally they vow to engage in open dialogue with residents to establish and represent their needs via community engagement.

Their work on their core values so far includes facilitating and advocating for the repair of the town clock, facilitating shop front improvement grants, providing street cleaners, public toilets and flower baskets and boxes.

The council has also liaised with the police over public safety issues, provided outside gym equipment and dog refuse bags and runs the allotments.

It offers the Civic Centre as a low-cost venue to local groups, puts on the Christmas lights event, gives grants to local groups and facilitates the care of local historical monuments.

The council’s meetings are publicised and available for the public and press to attend, meeting minutes, documents and accounts are available on their website and they use locally based contractors and partners to support the local economy.

The council said in 2025/26 they will develop a strategy out of this mission statement, with aims and objectives and review that strategy yearly in its annual report.

Town clerk Lorian Craggs Alferoff said: “This will allow us to remain accountable to our core values and to the people of Knighton. I think the mission statement will evolve over time.”

Members approved the mission statement at their January meeting.
