Essex-based developers Stonebond Properties Ltd have submitted a planning application to Shropshire Council that would see 53 new homes built in Highley.

The new development would be built on a five-and-a-half acre field off Woodhill Road, in the northwest of the village, near The Malt Shovel public house.

According to the documents, the development would be made up of 12 two-bedroom homes, 25 three-bedroom homes and 16 four-bedroom homes, which the developers say will "provide high-quality affordable housing solutions for the local community."

If the current plans are approved, new vehicle and pedestrian access would be provided to the new development from Woodhill Road along the eastern boundary.

An area of public open space with play equipment is also proposed for the uppermost northeast of the site.

The design and access statement argues that the development is in a "sustainable location" and has been designed with the aim of "creating a vibrant and inclusive community".

It continues: "The proposal creates a high-quality residential development, set within an attractive open space setting, that will deliver high-quality place-making whilst providing much needed new homes.

"The proposed design reflects the unique character and vernacular of the local area while incorporating modern amenities and technologies and aims to contribute positively to the social and economic development of the surrounding area."
