Council makes decision on controversial three-week bin collection plan

Shropshire Council has confirmed it will not be reducing its bin collections to once every three weeks.

But the council is not ruling out introducing the controversial change from the following financial year (2026/27).

In a statement the council said the changes will "only be considered" once plans for a new free weekly food waste collection have been agreed.

Currently, general waste household collections take place every two weeks.

The prospect of three-weekly collections was raised by the council in its budget consultation as one of the proposals to save money.
