It is National Apprentice Week and here at the Trust we are celebrating and raising awareness about the wide variety of apprenticeship opportunities across the NHS.
We have seen a rise in the number of colleagues on apprenticeship programmes ranging from accounting to associate project management. We currently have 214 colleagues on programmes.
Danielle Childs is one of those on a programme. She has had a variety of roles at the Trust, starting as a cleanliness technician on the wards, but she is now a Planning Manager and Get it Right First Time (GIRFT) Programme Coordinator. She is currently studying on the Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA), which, upon completion, will give her a BA Hons in Professional Management.
Genine Power started the Trust as an imaging assistant in the Radiology department and after two apprenticeships she is now a Diagnostic Radiographer.
Apprenticeship programmes are such a good way for staff to earn a wage whilst learning further skills or providing them with a career option they might otherwise not have had or have even considered.
The programmes allow people to gain on-the-job experience, which lead to skilled and qualified teams.
For further information about apprenticeships at SaTH please visit www.jobs.sath.nhs.uk/find-job/apprenticeships or call Judith Tudor, Talent and Succession Manager, on 01952 641222 ext 2956 (email: judithc.tudor@nhs.net). You can also set up an alert for when vacancies are advertised throughout the year.
Also, keep an eye on SaTH’s social media accounts this week too (X - @sathNHS , Facebook - @ShrewsburyandTelfordNHS, Insta - @sathnhs) to see some of our fantastic colleagues who have taken up apprenticeship opportunities with the Trust.

There is also the opportunity to take part in a taster session if you are interested in a career in Radiology.
Two radiology career taster sessions will take place at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) on Saturday 22 March at 9.30am-11.30am and 12noon-2pm.
You will gain an insight into the department and find out about how to train and what job opportunities exist. You will learn about anatomy and see how X-rays are taken and how they are reported.
Booking is essential for the sessions as places are limited. If you are interested and over 16, please email Hannah Blackwell on hannahblackwell@nhs.net
The Trust is committed to informing and involving its patients and communities as the Hospitals Transformation Programme (HTP) progresses and we have announced some dates for community drop-in sessions.
HTP is a multi-million pound investment to bring high quality, sustainable care and fewer delays for everyone. Construction work is well underway on a new four-storey expansion at RSH as part of the programme, which is expected to open in 2028.
The HTP plans will see Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford specialise in planned care, and RSH specialise in emergency care. In addition to this, 24/7 urgent care services will be available at PRH.
Dates for the sessions are as follows: Newport Market, Friday 14 February, 10am-2pm; Ironbridge Co-op, Monday 17 March, 12noon-4pm; Church Stretton Co-op, Friday 2 May, 10am-1pm; Wellington Market, Friday 9 May, 10am-2pm; Welshpool Market, Monday 16 June, 10am-2pm and Bridgnorth Market, Friday 11 July, 10am-2pm.
The sessions offer members of the public a chance to find out more about the programme and ask any questions they may have.
