Since 2022, London-based developer Frontier Estates has been trying to secure permission to build a care home on a plot of land on Great Hales Street in Market Drayton

The site, next to the Red Lion Public House and Joules Brewery, was formerly occupied by Phoenix Garage and currently consists largely of hardstanding.

The first application for a 60-bed care home, which was submitted in March 2022, was refused by Shropshire Council - largely over concerns that the future occupants would be impacted by the noise and odours of the brewery next door.

The developers then appealed the decision to the Government Planning Inspector, who rejected the proposal a few weeks later.
