Foul-mouthed Callum Lear, from Shifnal, who has a history of domestic violence, found himself back in court after hitting his ex, punching holes in doors and walls, and making menacing threats towards her.
The 26-year-old avoided an immediate prison sentence, however he was slapped with a restraining order, banning him from contacting the victim for four years.
Telford Magistrates Court was told how Lear and the victim started a relationship in June 2023 and took out a joint tenancy on a home together.
She ended the relationship after he lost his temper and smashed items in her bedroom.
However, that enraged Lear, whose fury boiled over on October 21 last year.
He called the victim a “fat c***” and told her: “I want you out of my house.” He threatened to destroy her belongings.
The victim went outside to the garden shed to try and get a signal on her phone and make a call.
While she did so, Lear locked her out of the house before coming back out.
Then with his “shoulders back”, he moved towards her before punching her in the stomach.
“I fell backwards into the fence,” the victim said in a statement. “The fence collapsed and I fell into next door’s garden.”
The victim knocked on her neighbour’s door to seek refuge and call the police.
Threatening messages
Prosecutor Kate Price said that police arrested Lear and examined his phone.
It contained several threatening messages towards the victim, with one making reference to “caving her head in”.
In another message, he told the victim: “I want you out of my f***ing house,” and “I swear on my nan’s life I want you gone.”
He insisted that he had “paid for everything”. “It’s my house, you can get f***ed,” he told her.
The victim also recorded a video of damage Lear caused in the house, including holes he had punched in doors and walls.
The victim’s mother said she “changed” during the relationship, “having nothing to do with her family” because “she was so frightened”.
During the victim’s ordeal, Lear would suggest she was depriving her daughter of a “father figure”, even though he is not the child’s dad.
Neighbours also reported hearing “fighting, shouting and screaming” from the house Lear and the victim shared.
Lear, of Botfield Road, Shifnal, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and harassment. He has two domestic abuse matters on his record after committing crimes against previous partners.
Representing himself in court, Lear told magistrates: “I know I was wrong. I shouldn’t have done it.”
Magistrates handed Lear a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months.
They also ordered him to do 200 hours of unpaid work and 15 rehabilitation activity days, and to pay £85 in prosecution costs and a £187 victim surcharge.
