The A5 was closed in both directions between Felton Butler and the B4396 Wolfshead Roundabout following a serious collision on Thursday (February 13).

The incident appears to have happened on or near to the roundabout at around 6.10pm, with National Highways confirming the road was closed at 7pm.

A photograph from the A5 shows traffic backed up southbound, having moved to the side of the carriageway for emergency vehicles to pass by.

At around 6.30pm, Oswestry PCSO Andy Neeves said: "There is currently a serious RTC on the A5 Wolfshead island, Nesscliffe bypass.

"Traffic is backed [up] in all directions, please avoid the area and find alternative route if possible."

At around 7pm, a spokesperson for West Mercia Police warned the road was "likely to remain closed for some time".

At around 8pm, an update from National Highways said that police remained on scene and were "carrying out complex investigation work".

A spokesperson added: "The closure is expected to be protracted and in place for a considerable time."

West Mercia Police and West Midlands Ambulance have been approached for more information.
