Inspectors from the education watchdog visited Newtown C of E Primary School in Shrewsbury on January 14 and 15 and found the school to be ‘good’ across all five inspected areas - the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management and early years provision.

It was the school’s first Ofsted inspection since it was rated ‘outstanding’ in 2013. In the report, published on January 14, pupils were said to enjoy coming to school and learning, which led them to “achieve well”.

Ofsted also commended the “caring and welcoming school” for its staff and “well thought out and ambitious” curriculum.

The report said: “The school’s values of strength, love and wisdom permeate all aspects of the school’s work. The school has worked hard to ensure pupils understand these values.
