Joy as Newport community café celebrates fifth birthday

For five years, The Hub off St Mary's Street has been serving up coffee, cake and community spirit to residents and visitors in Newport.

Staffed by volunteers, the community café gives work experience opportunities and training to young people with learning disabilities and additional needs.

After three years of research and planning, it was opened in February 2020 by Val Edgley and Liz Bickford-Smith. 

The pair both have sons with additional needs, and became frustrated with the lack of opportunities for local young people with disabilities.
