With a county so expansive, we asked our readers to name their favourite towns and villages to help plan your next day trip. 

They named many bustling towns and some quainter villages and shared what they love the most about them. 

Here’s what Shropshire Star readers had to say.

Clun

Shropshire Star reader Jo Bloom named Clun as their favourite town or village in the county. 

Jo said: “My great grandfather used to recite: Cluncton, Clungunford and Clun, the three most beautiful villages under the sun. He wasn't wrong.” 

Wellington Market

Shropshire Star reader Alan Jenkins said: “Wellington for me.” 

One of the oldest Shropshire towns, Wellington is known for its vibrant independents, market and busy calendar of events.

Shropshire Star reader Farm Weld named Hodnet as their favourite town or village in the county. 

This village is home to Hodnet Hall Gardens, which features more than 60 acres of stunning gardens and parkland. The Times named the village ‘Britain’s poshest’ in 2023

Shropshire Star reader Steve Aston named their hometown Broseley as their favourite town or village in the county. 

Steve said: “I had the best childhood growing up there, surrounded by countryside, there was always something to do.” 

Shropshire Star reader Matt Pledger said Madeley was their favourite town or village in the county. 

Matt said: “I’d never move. And Ironbridge, Jackfield, Coalport and Coalbrookdale are on the doorstep. Beautiful part of the world.”

From stunning gardens and historic sites to some of the best independent businesses in Shropshire, Shrewsbury has it all.

A number of Shropshire Star readers said Bishop’s Castle was their favourite town or village in the county. 

The market town is said to be home to one of the working breweries in Britain, the Three Tuns, located in Salop Street.

Shropshire Star reader Elizabeth Nockolds named Whitchurch as their favourite town or village in the county. 

This north Shropshire market town is known for its cheese and stunning buildings dating from Medieval, Tudor and Georgian times.
