Two house fires within half an hour in Shrewsbury this afternoon, with 'accident' and washing machine the causes

Firefighters were called out to two house fires in Shrewsbury within half an hour this afternoon.

The first Shrewsbury incident was an “accidental” fire in the kitchen of a home in Grange, Lane, Condover.

The fire brigade was called out at 12.10pm. Nobody was trapped in the building.

A brief report on the Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service incident log said: “Accidental fire in kitchen which crews extinguished using two hose reel jets and a covering jet whilst wearing breathing apparatus. 

“The property was ventilated using a positive pressure ventilation fan and temperatures were checked within the property using a thermal imaging camera.”

Two fire engines were sent to the scene from Shrewsbury as well as an operations officer. Crews left at 1.04pm.

At 12.39pm, firefighters were called to a home in Bank Farm Road, Radbrook after a washing machine caught fire.

A report on the incident log said: “Small fire from washing machine which was out on arrival of crews. 

“Crews carried out an inspection and moved the washing machine outside of the property. Thermal imaging camera used to check safe temperature levels.”

Two fire engines were sent from Minsterley and Wellington to the incident, as well as an operations officer.

Crews left the scene at 12.55pm.
