Eight of the best Shropshire restaurants that deserved a Michelin Star this year according to locals

There’s no shortage of fantastic restaurants in Shropshire - but which do locals think deserve more recognition for their food?

Earlier this week, top restaurants across the country found out their fate to be named among the best as The Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland 2025 was released. 

While no restaurant in Shropshire was handed the coveted accolade, plenty of restaurants made the Guide including The Walrus in Shrewsbury

A huge win for the county came when Wild Shropshire in Whitchurch earned special recognition and was awarded a prestigious 'Michelin Green Star'. This award is given to restaurants who are leaders in sustainable practices.

Docket 

Shropshire Star reader Luke Evans named Docket in High Street, Whitchurch, as a restaurant that deserved a Michelin Star this year. 

Luke said it is the “only complete package” in the county. 

The Walrus

Shropshire Star reader Chris Allen was one of many to name The Walrus in Lower Claremont Bank, Shrewsbury, as a restaurant in the county that deserved a Michelin Star this year. 

The Walrus is a fine dining restaurant that serves inventive dishes with “a French twist”. 

Etzio

Shropshire Star reader Chris Jones named Etzio in High Street, Whitchurch, as a restaurant in the county that deserved a Michelin Star this year. 

The Italian restaurant boasts an impressive 4.8 star rating from nearly 600 Google reviews. 

Mortimers 

Shropshire Star reader Margaret Cunliffe named Mortimers in Corve Street, Ludlow, as a restaurant in the county that deserved a Michelin Star this year. 

Mortimers is a modern British restaurant specialising in fine dining.

The Acton at Morville

Shropshire Star reader Poppy Russell named The Acton at Morville, Bridgnorth, as a restaurant in the county that deserved a Michelin Star this year. 

This restaurant promises an “unforgettable fine dining experience”.

The Royle

Shropshire Star reader Christine Heseltine named The Royle, in High Street, Bridgnorth, as a restaurant in the county that deserved a Michelin Star this year. 

The Royle is a restaurant and pub based in a refurbished Grade II-listed building

Old Downton Lodge

Shropshire Star reader Ian Harvey named Old Downton Lodge, just outside Ludlow, as a restaurant that deserved a Michelin Star. 

Ian said: “Ate there less than a week after eating at a two-Michelin-star restaurant down south and the Shropshire meal won hands down. Breakfast the next day was outstanding too.” 

Embers

Shropshire Star reader Luke Evans also named Embers Cafe in Station Road, Coalbrookdale, as a restaurant that deserved a Michelin Star this year.

Luke said one should visit the cafe, which specialises in fire-cooked dishes, for a “totally different experience”.
