Efforts are being made to rejuvenate the Chamber of Trade in Builth Wells.

The chamber used to run a few events in the town before the Covid pandemic hit and although still in existence, it has been quiet since.

Now Builth Wells Mayor Councillor Gwyn Davies is calling a meeting for anyone interested in resurrecting the chamber to give local businesses a voice.

“I think it is important, especially at the moment, to give businesses in Builth Wells a voice, so that they can approach the town council or Powys County Council with any issues and concerns or ideas they may have.

“For example, during the Christmas grotto event and the town’s first tractor run, the shops did not open for late night shopping and I think it would have happened for the benefit of the town and its traders, if the Chamber was still active.

“Before Covid there were 10 or 12 members of the chamber, some have retired or left business and do not have shops now, but we have got a few businesses in the town and some new blood and maybe people with some new ideas.

“I think it would be a huge loss if the chamber of trade finished and I am not prepared to let it close without trying to rejuvenate it, because once it’s gone it’s much harder to start it up again.”

The meeting for anyone interested in joining the Chamber of Trade or supporting it, will be held at the Strand Hall on Tuesday, February 25 at 7pm.

“The meeting is really to see if there is an appetite for a Chamber of Trade for businesses in and around the town, and if there is then we can build on the existing group,” said Gwyn.
