Tenbury High Ormiston Academy, in Tenbury Wells, on the border of South Shropshire and Herefordshire, held its annual mock interview day this week, inviting Year 11 students to take part in discussions with business leaders across the region.

More than 80 ambitious young students put on their suits to meet with businesspeople from across private and public sector organisations including the University of Worcester; Hereford & Worcester Group Training; Dynamite, a graphic design organisation; Frank P Matthews, a tree nursery in Tenbury Wells; and Assimilate Ltd, a scientific, engineering and technical training provider.
Attendees also included estate agents, jewellers, and a business consultant, granting students unparalleled access to learn from experts across a broad range of industries.
The students had the chance to speak to industry experts for 15 minutes and were asked a series of business questions to reflect a real-life interview, alongside receiving feedback for their responses and overall professionalism.
In preparation, the dedicated students spent time developing their CVs and interview answers, bringing together their qualifications and soft skills such as communication and personal confidence.
The interview day forms part of the academy’s tailored careers curriculum which helps students develop and highlight the skills they need to succeed in their careers, including critical thinking, leadership, and problem solving. Students have also had one on one career interviews with an external careers advisor as part of the academy’s commitment to best prepare all young people to take the next steps in their journey, across further study, training or employment.
Vicki Dean, Principal at Tenbury High Ormiston Academy, said: “At Tenbury High, we are passionate about ensuring all our students leave our school equipped with the skills and confidence they need to succeed in their future careers.
"We are really proud to offer exciting real-world experiences such as this to support our students to thrive in their next steps and it has been great to see them be so enthusiastic about taking part.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who gave up their morning to speak to students and share their expertise, making this morning possible for our learners. Hearing the feedback, I have no doubt that our students have very bright futures ahead!”
