The council has spent the last two years attempting to get grant funding to reopen The Crown Inn, in Newcastle-on-Clun, for the community.
And now, with a £270,000 government grant awarded in December, drinks will soon flow in the historic pub once again.
The purchase of The Crown Inn was completed today (February 21, 2025) and the venue will be open on Saturday, March 1 from 10am to noon for anyone wishing to view the property in its current condition, before the refurbishment begins.

A spokesperson for Newcastle Parish Council said: “We thank all those who have supported us and assisted with our bid for grant funding.
“Without this, we would not have been successful in obtaining the funds required to buy our village pub.
“We are grateful to The Community Ownership Fund Team for ensuring that our successful bid was processed expeditiously.
“Also, to Robin and Lorraine at PCB Solicitors for their efforts in completing the conveyancing.”
The spokesperson added: “The Friends of The Crown Inn are continuing to plan a series of fund-raising events.
“Further grants are being applied for and sponsorship opportunities explored.
“All this to fund the refurbishment and building work to bring the property and grounds to the best possible condition before tenants are appointed and The Crown opens for business again.”
