Following a tip-off, Telford & Wrekin Council Trading Standards officers raided a Telford town centre shop and uncovered the ‘illegal and dangerous goods’ that were being sold to the public.

Posted on the council’s official social media pages yesterday (February 21), officers seized 60 packs of hand-rolled tobacco and 470 vapes that did not meet the legal sale standards.

A spokesperson for Telford & Wrekin Council said this was not the first time the council has confiscated items from this particular shop, which has not been named. A previous raid by the council's officers stopped the sale of “unsafe toys”.

They added: “This operation is a further demonstration of our commitment to a strong enforcement agenda, taking bold, decisive action to tackle illegal and dangerous goods in our community.

“Our team is now evaluating the next steps for enforcement, with further action now being considered.

“This is just the latest example of our commitment to protecting local residents and ensuring that hazardous, illicit products are removed from Telford and Wrekin’s streets.

“We will continue to act without hesitation to keep our community safe.”
