Blaze involving several lorries and tractor at industrial estate near Oswestry - firefighters remain on scene

The Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service received a call at 4.47am (February 23) reporting the incident at a unit on the Rednal Industrial Estate.

Six fire crews including the 'incident command unit' were sent from Baschurch, Ellesmere, Oswestry, Shrewsbury and Telford fire stations.

Reports from the fire service said seven 'articulated lorries' and a tractor were alight at the industrial unit.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus, hose reel jets, main jets and thermal imaging cameras to deal with the incident. 

The fire service's incident log stated: "Seven articulated lorries and a tractor were alight at an industrial unit which also affected an adjacent building. 

"This incident required six appliances in attendance to aid in providing enough personnel, water supplies and breathing apparatus wearers on scene.

"Crews have been using main jets and hose reel jets to extinguish the fire whilst also wearing breathing apparatus and are continually checking temperatures using a thermal imaging camera."

Craig Jackson from the Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to nearby buildings. 

A post on X said: "Six fire crews are currently dealing with a number of HGV’s on fire near Oswestry. Crews initial actions have prevented the fire spread to a nearby building. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation."

Investigation officers, operations officers and principle officers are in attendance. 

Firefighters remain at the scene.
